In this month’s Tunbridge Wells Business Magazine, our CEO, Sophie Forrest-Lavery, discusses why Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and Harassment in the Workplace training have become essential for employers of all sizes.

In every business, culture is shaped by the everyday choices people make; how colleagues speak to one another, how managers respond to concerns, and whether everyone feels respected, heard and able to do their best work. That is why Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), alongside Harassment in the Workplace training, has become essential for employers of every size.

This is not about box-ticking. Effective training gives teams a shared understanding of acceptable behaviour, helps people recognise inappropriate conduct early, and gives managers the confidence to act consistently. It also supports businesses in meeting their legal responsibilities, including the requirement to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment at work.

For many organisations, the challenge is turning policy into practice. A policy may set expectations, but training brings those expectations to life through discussion, examples and practical guidance. It helps employees understand the impact of exclusion, bias and harassment, including behaviour that may be dismissed as “banter” but can damage trust, morale and wellbeing.

A respectful workplace is also a stronger workplace. When people feel safe and included, they are more likely to contribute ideas, collaborate effectively and stay with the organisation. Conversely, unresolved harassment or poor workplace culture can lead to grievances, absence, reputational damage and loss of talent.

Forrest Group are regularly providing EDI and Harassment in the Workplace training for businesses. Sessions are tailored to each organisation, and help employers move beyond compliance and build confident, inclusive teams.

For businesses looking ahead, investing in this training is not simply a protective measure. It is a positive commitment to people, performance and long-term success.
